Reinhold Shipwikineni has officially resigned from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), addressing his resignation to the party’s National General Secretary, Ptr. Christine !Auchamus.
In a letter dated 24 July 2025, Shipwikineni acknowledged receiving a communication from the IPC dated 23 July 2025, which referred to constitutional provisions but did not clearly outline any specific misconduct. In response, he announced his immediate resignation, stating it was unnecessary to dispute the letter’s contents due to the absence of any defined wrongdoing.
Shipwikineni raised concerns about procedural irregularities, questioning why the alleged misconduct was handled at the national level rather than through the party’s Oshiveelo branch, where he is affiliated. He emphasized that his resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
The former IPC member also criticized what he perceived as a violation of his political rights, arguing that actions taken against him appeared to infringe on his freedom to participate in political party activities. Drawing parallels with the historical experiences of Namibian political detainees on Robben Island, he suggested that freedom of speech and political participation are essential democratic rights.
“Namibia is a democratic country,” he stated, urging party leadership to revisit constitutional principles, specifically Articles 17 and 21 of the Namibian Constitution and Article 23 of the IPC Constitution, which safeguard individual political freedoms.
Shipwikineni concluded his letter by wishing the party well in its future endeavors.
