Southern Cross Security Employee Arrested for Alleged Role in Armed Robberies

Namibian police have made a major breakthrough in the recent wave of cash-in-transit robberies, with the arrest of a Southern Cross Security employee suspected of being a key inside informant for a notorious armed robbery syndicate.

According to law enforcement sources, the suspect whose identity is being withheld until their court appearance in Katutura later today is believed to have provided confidential information about cash movements and security procedures to criminal gangs. This intel reportedly enabled several robberies and attempted heists targeting Southern Cross operations across Windhoek.

One of the most prominent incidents linked to the suspect is the foiled robbery at the Lafrenz Industrial Area last week. That incident led to the dramatic arrest of five suspects, including well-known figures Lukas ‘Big Show’ Nghishekwa, Elias ‘Small Boy’ Haifete, Lotto Haindongo, Pinias Haiduwa, and Amon Haikali.

Police spokespersons revealed that the suspect also allegedly played a role in facilitating armed robberies at Shoprite and the Total filling station in Lafrenz by leaking key operational details to the perpetrators.

“This arrest is a significant step in dismantling the organised criminal networks behind recent robberies. We believe more arrests may follow as investigations continue,” said a senior police investigator familiar with the case.

The Southern Cross Security company has yet to issue an official statement, but sources within the firm expressed shock at the betrayal by one of their own.

The suspect is expected to face charges related to conspiracy to commit armed robbery, aiding and abetting criminal activity, and possibly more as the investigation unfolds.

More updates to follow after the court appearance.
