Katutura Businessman Arrested Over 54 Suspected Stolen Tyres

Katutura Businessman Nabbed Over 54 Suspected Stolen Tyres – The Updated World

A Katutura businessman has been arrested after police discovered more than 50 suspected stolen tyres at his premises in Windhoek’s Katutura Central on Tuesday.

Khomas Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Katrina Naukushu, confirmed the arrest and said the man had been operating from a container along Willie Gulubane Street, where officers found 54 second-hand tyres of various sizes and brands some still fitted on rims.

According to Naukushu, the suspect faces charges under the Second-Hand Goods Act, 1998 (Act 23 of 1998), as well as for possession of suspected stolen property. “The individual was selling second-hand tyres without complying with the legal requirements,” she said, adding that the operation was conducted by a team of dedicated officers who have been monitoring illegal tyre trading activities in the area.

The suspect is expected to be formally charged on Wednesday and to make his first court appearance on Thursday.

Police have urged vehicle owners who have recently lost tyres or spares particularly from bakkies to contact Warrant Officer Lucas at 081 240 5383 or 085 240 5383 for possible identification of their property.

Naukushu further appealed to the public to refrain from buying goods from unregistered dealers, noting that doing so fuels criminal activity and hampers police investigations.
