
A Grade 10 learner from Simanya Combined School in Kavango West Region is receiving urgent medical care at Nkurenkuru Hospital after sustaining severe injuries in an apparent suicide attempt on Tuesday morning.
According to Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga of the Namibian Police, the incident occurred around 07h00 when the male student reportedly jumped from a water tank tower located on the school grounds.
School authorities acted swiftly, providing immediate assistance and arranging for the student’s transport to the hospital. He remains in critical condition as medical staff work to stabilise him.
The incident has raised concerns over student mental health, prompting calls for increased psychosocial support services within schools. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
