On Sunday, January 26, 2025, residents of Keetmanshoop convened at the J. Stephanus Stadium for an Interdenominational Prayer Day under the theme “Unity in Prayer for a Better Tomorrow.” The event, organized by Gang-Free Keetmanshoop, aimed to address the town’s escalating crime rates attributed to gangsterism. The Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity in combating crime.

In a related initiative, reformed ex-offender Paulus Shimweetheleni, known as ‘Ninja,’ has partnered with the Namibian Police Force (Nampol) to deter youth from engaging in criminal activities. After serving 25 years in prison for robbery and murder, Ninja has transformed his life and now collaborates with the police to engage directly with young people about the consequences of crime. He has been visiting local shebeens, school, and clubs to share his story to discourage criminal involvement.

The combined efforts of community events like the Interdenominational Prayer Day and initiatives involving reformed individuals like Ninja reflect Keetmanshoop’s commitment to fostering unity and reducing crime through collaborative approaches.
