
In a significant boost to Namibia’s energy ambitions, BW Energy and NAMCOR E&P have confirmed the acquisition of the Deepsea Mira drilling rig to commence work on the Kharas appraisal well within the Kudu licence area, located in the Orange Basin.
Drilling operations are scheduled for the second half of 2025 and will be conducted under a collaborative rig-sharing agreement. The arrangement emphasizes in-country expertise and a strong focus on local content, aligning with Namibia’s drive for greater participation in the energy sector.
This development marks a major step forward in the long-awaited Kudu gas project, which holds the potential to transform Namibia into a regional energy hub by generating power from domestic natural gas resources.
The Kudu gas field is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable economic growth through cleaner, locally sourced energy.
