
Tragedy struck on Tuesday evening at Shakashondo village in the Kangongo area of Mukwe Constituency, Kavango East Region, when lightning claimed the lives of two people during a rainstorm.
According to the police, nine people had sought shelter inside a hut to protect themselves from the heavy rain when lightning struck the structure. The powerful bolt killed two individuals instantly and left others with minor injuries.
The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Christine Thihawa Moyo and nine-year-old Kambathi Edward Muronga Kambathi. Two other children, Sandrina Kunyima (9) and Angeline Thimango (11), sustained light burn injuries and were rushed to Andara Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Fortunately, five others who were inside the same hut managed to escape unharmed.
The incident has left the small Shakashondo community in shock as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.
