Lilongwe, Malawi – The Chief Resident Magistrate in Lilongwe has suspended for 30 days the detention order for Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary Bushiri. This comes after their extradition case was referred to a higher court.
Earlier today, the court ruled that the couple should be sent back to South Africa to face charges of fraud and money laundering. They were ordered to remain in custody while awaiting extradition. However, the new ruling means they will not be detained while the superior court takes over the case.
Bushiri Reacts to the Ruling
Following the decision, Bushiri took to social media, expressing gratitude for what he called a “remarkable victory.” He shared that 10 out of 13 cases against them had been dismissed due to lack of evidence, leaving only three to be reviewed by the High Court.
“Praise the Lord! We give all the glory to God,” he wrote. “This victory is not just about us; it’s about the advancement of God’s kingdom.”
He thanked supporters for their prayers and assured them that they would appeal to the High Court of Malawi.
What’s Next?
With the case now moving to a higher court, the extradition process is still undecided. South African authorities are pushing for the couple’s return, but Bushiri’s legal team remains hopeful that they will not be sent back.
For now, the Bushiris remain free in Malawi while awaiting the next legal steps.
