A 20-year-old woman living with a disability has allegedly been sexually assaulted multiple times by a neighbour in the Engodi constituency of the Oshikoto Region, police have confirmed.
The suspect, an adult male from Ongaka village, was arrested following a police investigation that began after the victim’s mother discovered unusual footprints inside their home.
According to Oshikoto Regional Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Ellen Nehale-Kangulu, the suspect is believed to have unlawfully entered the victim’s bedroom at night and coerced her into non-consensual sexual acts on more than one occasion.
“The victim is disabled and unable to speak, but she comprehends what is being said to her and communicates by nodding her head,” Nehale-Kangulu stated.
Authorities became involved when the victim’s mother noticed unfamiliar footprints in the house and, after failing to track the trail on her own, reported the matter to the police.
Following swift action, law enforcement officers managed to trace and arrest the suspect. Further investigations into the case are ongoing, and the man is expected to appear in court soon.
The police have reiterated the importance of community vigilance and the need to report any suspicious activities, especially those involving vulnerable individuals.
