A 27-year-old man, identified as Haufiku Tuhafeni Cornelius Kenendi, tragically lost his life on Wednesday afternoon after being run over by a dump truck near the Walvis Bay dumping site.
According to Chief Inspector Judith Shomongula, the incident occurred around 14:15 along Rikumbi Kandanga Street, when a red Scania dump truck belonging to the municipality was heading to the site to dispose of waste.
Reports indicate that Kenendi and several others allegedly began chasing after the moving truck. In the process, he stumbled and fell to the ground, where he was fatally struck by the vehicle’s rear left wheels.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but Kenendi was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. His next of kin have since been notified, and police have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
The Walvis Bay Police have urged the public to exercise caution around heavy-duty vehicles, especially in high-risk areas such as dumping sites.
