A 46-year-old man, Vilho Kondjashili Hamunyela, was stabbed to death on Saturday night following an altercation that began at a bar in the Havana location of Katutura.
According to the Namibian Police’s weekend crime report, the incident occurred between 20:00 and 21:30 at a residence along Peter Nanyemba Road.
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the arrest of a 48-year-old male suspect in connection with the killing. She said the two men allegedly got into a heated argument at a gambling machine inside a local bar, which escalated until the bar owner forced them outside.
“Hamunyela reportedly went to his nearby home and returned armed with a hammer and a knife. He allegedly struck the suspect on the forehead with the hammer before the suspect disarmed him and stabbed him once in the upper left chest with the same knife,” Shikwambi said.
Hamunyela died at the scene. The suspect later turned himself in at the Wanaheda Police Station.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
