A tragic incident shocked residents of Rundu’s Tutungeni location early Thursday morning when the body of a 34-year-old man was discovered at the Noordgrens Sports Stadium in what police believe to be a case of suicide.
The deceased, identified as Shiputa Festus Linkau, a resident of Safari location, was reportedly found hanging from a tree inside the stadium premises. The grim discovery was made by schoolchildren on their way to class, who quickly alerted the police.
According to the Kavango East police, the incident is believed to have taken place sometime between 22h00 on Wednesday, 29 October, and 06h30 on Thursday, 30 October 2025. Investigators suspect that Linkau used a wire to end his life.
“No suicide note was recovered at the scene, and the motive behind the act remains unclear,” the police confirmed, adding that no foul play is suspected at this stage.
The body has since been transported to the Rundu State Mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the deceased’s family has been informed. Police investigations are ongoing.
