A disturbing case of domestic violence has rocked the quiet village of Mayara in the Kavango West Region, where a 48-year-old man was severely burned in what police suspect was an intentional attack by his spouse.
The victim, identified as Kapumburu Jacob Katanga, was reportedly asleep on Sunday afternoon when his wife allegedly poured boiling cooking oil on his face. The horrific incident left him with serious facial burns, and he is currently receiving urgent medical care at a nearby health facility.
Kavango West Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect remains at large.
Investigations are ongoing, and law enforcement has called on the public to come forward with any information that may assist in locating the alleged perpetrator.
The motive behind the brutal act remains unclear at this stage. This violent episode comes at a time when gender-based violence (GBV) continues to plague both Kavango regions. In response, the #EndGBVNamibia campaign has recently intensified efforts across the regions. While the campaign was launched last week in Kavango East under the leadership of the Regional Governor, it is currently active in Kavango West, aiming to raise awareness and promote community action against GBV.
Authorities stress that such violence should not be tolerated and call on communities to speak out and report abuse.
