Man Takes Own Life Over Missing N$5 Coin


Epyalyiipundu – A tragic incident unfolded in Epyalyiipundu village, Okaku area, after a 33-year-old man ended his life following a dispute over a missing N$5 coin.

According to police reports, the deceased, identified as Sam Iita, had returned home late on Friday evening after spending time at local shebeens. Upon his arrival, his mother confronted him about the missing coin, which reportedly belonged to a young boy in the household.

Witnesses say the conversation quickly escalated, with Iita becoming visibly upset. In the heat of the moment, he allegedly threatened to take his own life. Sadly, by the following morning, his body was discovered hanging from a mopane tree in the family’s mahangu field.

Authorities have since confirmed that Iita was a known mental health patient. His death has left the community in shock, with many expressing concern over the importance of mental health awareness and support.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
