Man’s Body Found Floating in River Days After Disappearance in Kavango West

Kavango River

A tragic incident unfolded in the Kavango West region when the body of a 69-year-old man, Selestinus Tjitwe Kavamba, was discovered floating in the river near Tondoro village on Tuesday. Kavamba, who reportedly went to check his fishing net at the river in Nankudu on Monday, never returned home.

According to close sources, Kavamba’s family began searching for him after he failed to return. Following his trail along the riverbank, they only managed to find his clothes but no other signs of his whereabouts.
According to Eagle FM report, Kavango West Regional Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, she said that the Namibia Police (Nampol) water policing unit was dispatched to conduct a search in the area.
“The body was found floating yesterday in the afternoon about 5 kilometers from where his clothes were located,” she explained.
Sakuwa-Neo confirmed that Kavamba’s family identified the body, adding that its condition was consistent with drowning. The circumstances leading to his death are still under investigation.
This incident has left the community in mourning, as it highlights the potential dangers of river-based activities in the region.
