Namibia’s sprint sensations, Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi, are set to race in the women’s 100m at the upcoming World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event, scheduled for 12 April 2025 in Gaborone, Botswana.
Both Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi are currently in the recovery phase following testosterone hormone reduction treatments. Masilingi has shown promising form in her recent competitions, securing first-place finishes. However, she sustained a shoulder injury during a meet in China. Mboma, on the other hand, has faced some challenges since her return. In her most recent race, she finished second behind fellow Namibian sprinter Nangula, who claimed the top spot.
Their coach, Henk Botha, confirmed their participation and expressed confidence in their form, saying both athletes are “well-prepared and ready to compete at the highest level.”
The Gaborone meet is one of several elite competitions in the 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold circuit, which spans five continents and serves as a platform for athletes to meet qualification times for major global events and boost their world rankings.
Both Mboma and Masilingi are no strangers to the spotlight. In April 2022, Mboma clocked a blistering 10.97 seconds in the 100m on the same track in Botswana, setting a national record. Masilingi, having recently completed a training stint in South Africa, has returned home and resumed training under Botha’s guidance as she prepares for the season ahead.

Their appearance in Gaborone is a crucial step toward qualifying for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, with the benchmark set at 11.07 seconds in the 100m and 22.57 seconds in the 200m.
The event is expected to draw top-tier talent from across the globe and will offer Mboma and Masilingi a valuable opportunity to test themselves against some of the best in the sport. It also gives them the chance to sharpen their form on the road to international success.
