The Ministry of Works and Transport has officially terminated the appointments of several members of the Engineering Council of Namibia (ECN), with the decision taking immediate effect.
This follows earlier notices issued by the ministry requesting council members to provide reasons why they should continue serving on the regulatory body. A letter signed by Minister Veikko Nekundi confirmed the dismissals, although the ministry did not specify the reasons behind the decision.
The ECN, established under the Engineering Profession Act (Act No. 18 of 1986), serves as the national statutory body responsible for regulating the engineering profession in Namibia. Its duties include the registration of professional engineers, incorporated engineers, engineering technicians, and trainee candidates. The council also oversees engineering practices to ensure adherence to standards of public safety, professional conduct, and health.
At the time of this report, the ministry has not indicated whether replacement members will be appointed or when such appointments might occur.
