A Ministry of Fisheries official, a local nurse, and another woman were arrested in Windhoek this evening over an alleged N$30 million fraud scheme. The three, aged 53, 34, and 30, were taken into custody in Windhoek.
The case involves Lancaster Training Institute, a nursing school established in 2022. Investigators claim the women obtained a N$30 million loan from Walvis Bay-based Oranje Cultural Fishing (Pty) Ltd under false pretenses. A 53-year-old fisheries official, who is also a shareholder in the fishing company, allegedly played a key role in securing the funds.
Authorities believe the money was not used for the school as intended but instead spent on personal luxuries. This reportedly includes a N$1.7 million house in Windhoek and expensive cars.
The suspects will be transferred to Walvis Bay, where they are expected to appear in court soon.
