The body of a 49-year-old man who was reported missing earlier this week was discovered floating in a water pan on Tuesday afternoon, bringing a tragic end to a brief but unsettling disappearance in Onashiku village, Elim Constituency.
The deceased, Jeremia Uusiku, had last been seen on Monday evening. According to the Namibian Police, Uusiku confided in members of his extended family who are also his neighbours that he was facing serious personal problems. He reportedly did not elaborate on the nature of these challenges.
Later that same evening, Uusiku left his home and told his wife he was going to the nearby cucashops. Police reports indicate that while returning, Uusiku made a phone call to his wife, saying he was lost and unable to find his way home. His phone subsequently went off and further attempts to contact him failed.
A missing person report was filed on Tuesday morning, prompting a search operation in the area. Tragically, Uusiku’s lifeless body was found floating in a water pan later that day.
At the time of reporting, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. Police investigations are ongoing, and a postmortem examination is expected to determine the cause of death.
Authorities have urged the community to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.
