President Nandi-Ndaitwah highlights breach of international law
President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has voiced Namibia’s strong disapproval of Israel’s recent military actions against Iran, labeling the June 13 strikes a violation of international law and a danger to global peace. She appealed to all parties involved to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic solutions through established multilateral channels such as the United Nations.
In a direct statement, President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed profound concern over the Israeli military strikes, which reportedly targeted nuclear and civilian infrastructure in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
She stated that “This act constitutes a flagrant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and represents a breach of international law, including the Charter of the United Nations.” She specifically referenced Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which forbids the threat or use of force against any state’s territorial integrity or political independence.
The President warned of the “potential debilitating consequences” of this escalation for both regional and global peace and security, noting that further destabilization could have severe repercussions for international stability and economic markets, particularly those related to energy.
Namibia is urging all parties to prioritize “maximum restraint” and to seek a diplomatic resolution via multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, in accordance with international norms. The nation underscored its commitment to the principles of sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Namibia encourages the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council and all peace-loving nations, to act decisively to de-escalate tensions and bring all stakeholders back to dialogue to prevent further conflict.
The Government of Namibia remains dedicated to international peace, justice, and multilateralism, and consistently opposes unilateral military actions and the use of force to resolve international disagreements.
