Charles Kauraisa Dies at 90

Charles Kauraisa, a revered figure in Namibia’s liberation history and a prominent businessman, has passed away at the age of 90, his family has confirmed.

Kauraisa was widely respected for his unwavering commitment to the fight against apartheid and played a significant role in Namibia’s journey toward independence. A founding member of the South West Africa National Union (SWANU), he later served as the Chairman and Foreign Affairs Secretary of the party’s External Council during his years in exile in Sweden. His diplomatic efforts were instrumental in garnering international support for Namibia’s liberation movement.

Beyond his political activism, Kauraisa was also a successful businessman and held a leadership role at Rössing Uranium, one of Namibia’s key mining enterprises. His contributions spanned both the political and economic spheres, earning him recognition as a patriotic leader devoted to nation-building.

Tributes have begun pouring in from across the country, remembering Kauraisa not only for his political courage but also for his dedication to public service and economic development.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
