In a significant operation today, the Namibian Police’s Drug Law Enforcement Subdivision (DLESD) arrested a 29-year-old male in Narraville, Walvis Bay, for possession of 1,201 mandrax tablets. The seizure, valued at approximately N$144,120. The incident occurred around 12:10 PM on Kruis Street, Walvis Bay.

The operation was initiated following intelligence about a parcel sent via Nampost courier from Windhoek to Walvis Bay on 21 January 2025. DLESD officers monitored the parcel overnight until its arrival at the Nampost depot in Walvis Bay this morning. A controlled delivery, executed in collaboration with Nampost, led to the suspect’s arrest upon collection of the parcel.

This arrest underscores NAMPOL’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. Recent operations have resulted in significant drug seizures, including cannabis, cocaine, and mandrax, with multiple arrests in Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. For instance, over the past weekend, drugs worth N$44,500 were confiscated at the coast, leading to several arrests.

Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi emphasized the growing concern over drug-related activities, stating that Namibia is facing a serious issue with increasing drug use and trafficking. She highlighted the need for collective collaboration to address this national crisis, particularly to safeguard the youth.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon, facing charges related to drug possession and trafficking. NAMPOL continues to urge the public to report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against drug-related crimes.
