NamPol’s Explosives Control Division Gains New Strength

Nampol receive support

In a major step towards enhancing public safety, the Namibian Police Force’s Explosives Control Division has received a significant upgrade to its operational capabilities. The Ministry of Works and Transport recently donated vehicles and equipment worth N$22.4 million to the division.

The donation includes six vehicles, four double-cab pickups and two minibuses as well as 20 metal detectors, among other essential equipment. These resources are expected to improve the division’s mobility and efficiency, particularly in responding to incidents involving unexploded ordnance and remnants of war in remote and challenging areas.

During the official handover ceremony, Inspector General Lieutenant General Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo praised the Ministry of Works and Transport for its commitment to national security. “These vehicles will provide crucial mobility support, enabling our teams to access remote and challenging terrains where unexploded ordnance and explosives remnants of war may be located,” said Shikongo.

This collaboration between government entities highlights the critical role of inter-ministerial support in safeguarding Namibia’s peace and security. With this enhanced operational capacity, NamPol is better positioned to address explosive hazards effectively, ensuring the safety of all citizens.
