Starting 1 October 2025, NamPost will officially assume responsibility for distributing cash-based social grants across Namibia, the Ministry of Finance and Social Grant Management has confirmed.
According to ministry spokesperson Wilson Shikoto, the move is part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the country’s social support systems.
“All social grant beneficiaries living in towns and settlements will now collect their payments from their nearest NamPost branch,” Shikoto said in a statement issued Monday. “Those in remote areas situated more than five kilometres from a NamPost office will continue receiving their grants through NamPost’s mobile outreach services.”
The decision to shift full responsibility to NamPost is rooted in the organization’s widespread national infrastructure, which the ministry believes will support a more consistent and secure payment process. The reform is also intended to promote financial inclusion and improve service delivery.
To ensure a smooth transition, the ministry will host regional information sessions in the coming weeks. Shikoto urged all current grant recipients to attend these meetings to stay informed about the new collection procedures.
