Ndama East Community Awaits Prime Minister’s Visit Amid Ndama East School Controversy

Ndama East Community

Residents of the Kavango East Region, particularly the Ndama East community, are anticipating a resolution following the announcement of an official visit by Prime Minister Dr. Elijah Ngurare.

Dr. Ngurare shared on social media that:

“On Friday, 19 September 2025, we will be in the Rundu Urban Constituency of Kavango East Region to conduct an assessment of existing government projects. The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate the extent to which the key priority areas outlined in the SWAPO Party Election Manifesto Implementation Plan—such as schools, water infrastructure, roads, clinics, and others—are being adequately implemented. During our visit, we will engage in meetings with the Regional Governor, SWAPO Party regional and district leadership, traditional leaders, and other relevant stakeholders. We will be accompanied by senior government officials from the affected ministries, among others.”

The visit comes amid growing concerns over Ndama East Primary School, which has faced scrutiny following a parliamentary intervention by AR President Job Amupanda. During the discussion, the Minister of Education reportedly declared the school illegal, recommending that over 500 learners transfer to nearby schools. The announcement has sparked outrage among parents and the wider Namibian public, as most neighboring schools are already at full capacity.

In response, parents organized peaceful demonstrations, emphasizing that their children should not be relocated and urging the government to construct a proper school in Ndama East. The Prime Minister’s upcoming visit is viewed as a critical opportunity to engage with the community and identify a sustainable solution.

Pro-Job Amupanda also highlighted the significance of the visit, stating:

“People of Namibia 🇳🇦
According to media reports, tomorrow, Friday 19 September 2025, Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare will, among other government projects, also visit Ndama East Primary School, where more than 500 learners are being taught under trees. He will be accompanied by all relevant officials to FIND and DIRECT a FINAL SOLUTION and end the political football being played with the future of our children. Those who thought political party divisions could overshadow the principled concern for our children’s future should think again. Thank you Chief, our Prime Minister 🙏🏿💪🏿🫡”

The Kavango East community and broader Namibian citizens are now hopeful that the Prime Minister’s engagement will result in a concrete plan to address the school’s challenges and secure a better educational environment for the learners.
