The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs has released the official requirements for Namibians wishing to join the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) this year. The recruitment process, which is now open, targets both recruits and officer cadets, with the application deadline set for 21 November 2025 at 17h00.
According to the Ministry, the recruitment is aimed at giving young Namibians an opportunity to serve their country while building a disciplined and professional defence force.
Requirements for Recruits
Applicants for the recruit category must be between 18 and 30 years old by 21 November 2025. They should have obtained a Grade 12 Certificate with at least 25 points in five subjects including an ‘E’ symbol in English, or a Grade 11 Certificate with the same points and English requirement.
Candidates who possess musical skills or qualifications — such as playing the flute, trumpet, clarinet, or drums — will have an added advantage.
Requirements for Officer Cadets
Those applying as officer cadets must be between 18 and 25 years old and have a Grade 11 or Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of 27 points in five subjects, including a ‘C’ in English.
A tertiary qualification will serve as an added advantage, and candidates are required to undergo a psychometric test.
General Conditions
All applicants are required to be Namibian citizens without tattoos or a criminal record. They must also be ready to undergo a medical check-up and pass both General Knowledge and English Language tests.
The Ministry further emphasized that physical fitness is a critical part of the selection process. Male applicants must complete a 2.4 km run within 13 minutes and perform at least 43 push-ups, while female candidates are expected to complete the run within 14 minutes and 30 seconds and perform 25 or more push-ups. Both male and female applicants must also meet the body mass and height requirements specified in the announcement.
Applicants are advised to attach certified copies of their Namibian ID, birth certificate, academic qualifications, and two passport photos to their application forms.
Submissions must be made strictly through constituency offices, and those from marginalized communities are encouraged to apply through the Office of the Presidency. The Ministry also reminded the public that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and no documents will be returned.
