A dramatic incident unfolded near Oshakati on Saturday when a vehicle belonging to Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) deputy president, Kalimbo Iipumbu, was engulfed in flames while on the move. The fire erupted unexpectedly as Iipumbu was driving along the Oshakati–Ompundja road, putting him and his family in a potentially dangerous situation.
Speaking to the Local News Outlet on Sunday, Iipumbu recounted the frightening moment. “I was driving at around 80km/h when I suddenly noticed smoke filling the interior of the car. I quickly pulled over and opened the bonnet, only to find that the fire had already taken hold. We rushed to remove everything we could from the vehicle, and then helplessly watched as it was completely destroyed,” he said.
Iipumbu confirmed that his family was in the car at the time of the incident, but fortunately, no one was injured. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and authorities have not released further details. The deputy president described the incident as “shocking and alarming,” emphasizing the importance of vehicle safety checks.
