A newborn baby boy was found alive after being abandoned in the bushes at Bunya village in the Kavango West Region on Tuesday.
The baby was discovered by a cattle herder who heard him crying. The herder quickly informed the police, leading to the infant’s rescue.
According to Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga of the Kavango West Police, the baby’s mother, whose identity remains unknown, gave birth in the bushes and then attempted to kill him by placing a brick on his head.
The infant was taken to Rundu Intermediate Hospital, where he is receiving medical care and is in stable condition.
Police have urged residents and teachers in Bunya and nearby villages to help identify the mother or any woman who was recently pregnant but is now without a baby.
Investigations are ongoing.
