Amupanda Criticises Idle Nkurenkuru Factory

Activist and politician Job Amupanda has raised questions about a government-built factory in Nkurenkuru that has remained unused since its inauguration three years ago.
The facility, equipped with sewing and embroidery machines, was officially opened in 2022 by then Vice President Nangolo Mbumba. Despite the investment and the ceremony held at the time, the factory has reportedly never operated, leaving the machinery idle.
Amupanda said the situation reflects a lack of accountability and urged his supporters in Nkurenkuru to understand that effective governance cannot thrive where there is no political competition. All seats on the Nkurenkuru Town Council are currently held by the ruling party.
His remarks come as the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) recently faced criticism after initially announcing a SWAPO candidate as the automatic winner in the upcoming election due to the absence of other contenders. The commission later corrected the announcement, stating it was a system error.
The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement, led by Amupanda, will also participate in the upcoming elections, setting the stage for increased competition in the town’s political landscape.
