Eleven Key Bills Headed to Parliament, Says President Nandi-Ndaitwah in First SONA
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on lawmakers to prioritise the finalisation of eleven key bills set to be tabled in Parliament, during her inaugural State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Thursday.
Addressing the nation, President Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the legislative progress made in recent months, noting that several bills have been finalised and are now ready for parliamentary consideration. She urged parliamentarians to use the current sitting to bring these legislative efforts to completion.
The eleven bills on their way to Parliament include:
- Insolvency Bill
- Regional Councils Amendment Bill
- Local Authorities Amendment Bill
- Constituency Development Fund Bill
- Land Bill
- Public Finance Management Bill
- Namibia Investment Promotion and Facilitation Bill
- Statelessness Determination and Protection Bill
- Namibian Citizenship Amendment Bill
- Namibia Refugees (Control & Recognition) Amendment Bill
- Legal Aid Amendment Bill
“These pieces of legislation are vital to strengthening governance, improving public service delivery, and securing socio-economic development,” said Nandi-Ndaitwah.
In addition to the upcoming bills, she also acknowledged the passage of seven significant laws by Parliament since the last SONA:
- Vehicle Mass Act, 2024
- Dissolution of Marriages Act, 2024 (Act 10 of 2024)
- Property Practitioners Act, 2024 (Act 11 of 2024)
- Civil Registration & Identification Act, 2024 (Act 13 of 2024)
- Health Professionals Act, 2024 (Act 16 of 2024)
- Marriage Act, 2024 (Act 14 of 2024)
- Regulation of Status of Certain Residents of Namibia, Their Descendants and Foreign Spouses Act, 2024
President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s first SONA as head of state underscored her administration’s focus on legislative reform as a critical tool for national progress. The pending bills address a broad range of issues from economic management and investment promotion to legal aid, statelessness, and local governance.
Parliament’s response to this legislative agenda will be closely watched as the government moves to implement policy frameworks that align with the President’s stated goals of transparency, inclusivity, and national development.
