Police report

Authorities in Nkurenkuru have arrested an Angolan national acting as a prophet after closing an unregistered church that was operating in poor and unsafe living conditions. The church was located on a plot owned by a female police officer and was not approved by the Ukwangali Traditional Authority.

Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga said the site housed about 60 men, women, and children who lived without basic facilities such as clean water, toilets, electricity, or proper shelter. Many slept in makeshift structures, had limited food, and some sick individuals had been abandoned by their families.

Several people in serious condition were taken to Nankudu and Nkurenkuru hospitals for treatment. The arrested Angolan nationals, who were leading the church without proper documents, were charged under the Immigration Control Act.

Police have ordered the demolition of all structures and warned the public to avoid unregistered religious sites due to the risks to health and safety.
