Residents of Nkurenkuru took to the streets on Tuesday in a peaceful demonstration after reports of mutilated bodies allegedly being discovered in the Kavango River. The incident has stirred deep concern among community members, many of whom fear the killings may be linked to ritual practices.
The protest, organized by the Nkurenkuru Concerned Group, drew attention to the growing sense of insecurity within the town and surrounding areas. Protesters carried placards and called on local leaders and law enforcement agencies to intensify investigations and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Community members say the alleged discoveries have created widespread fear, particularly among families living close to the river. The Nkurenkuru Concerned Group emphasized that the situation threatens the peace and safety of residents if not addressed urgently.

As part of the demonstration, the group is preparing a petition to be delivered to Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo, urging immediate government intervention and stronger protective measures for the community.
The petition also calls for transparency in police investigations and for authorities to communicate openly with residents about progress being made to resolve the matter.
