Public servants across Namibia will not be allowed to travel for official duties between 24 and 26 November, as the country prepares for the upcoming Regional Council and Local Authority elections.
The directive comes from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), which wants to ensure that all government employees remain within their constituencies to cast their votes.
Secretary to Cabinet Emilia Mkusa announced the measure in a memo, explaining that no official travel whether within the country or abroad should take place during the election period.
Mkusa said the restriction is meant to give all public servants the opportunity to take part in the democratic process and to help ensure the elections run smoothly.
“All official trips during this period must be deferred,” Mkusa stated, adding that exceptions will only be considered for essential service delivery and must be approved by her office.
She also urged all ministries, offices, and agencies to respect the directive, highlighting the importance of civic participation among government employees.
“Your cooperation in upholding this directive and ensuring the full participation of public servants in the democratic process is appreciated,” Mkusa said.
