Ongos FC Goalkeeper Ikuaterua ‘Star’ Mungendje Dies After Car Accident

Namibian football is mourning the tragic loss of promising young goalkeeper, Ikuaterua “Star” Mungendje, of Ongos Sports Club. The 22-year-old talent passed away following a severe car accident that occurred on the B1 Highway between Tses and Keetmanshoop on Friday, October 25, 2025.


Mungendje had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since the crash, along with another individual, but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The news was confirmed by the Ongos Sports Club, who released a heartfelt statement on their social media channels expressing deep sorrow over his passing.

“The Ongos Sports Club is deeply saddened by the passing of our young goalkeeper, Ikuaterua ‘Star’ Mungendje. Star was not only an exceptional talent but also a beloved member of our football family… admired for his dedication, humility, and passion for the game.” – Ongos FC statement

The club emphasized that Mungendje was a cherished member of the “football family” and a player whose character was as strong as his talent on the field.


Despite his young age, Mungendje had already built a notable career. He began his journey at Tura Magic FC and represented the nation on the international stage, featuring for the Namibia U17 and U20 national teams. His potential as a top-tier goalkeeper was widely recognized within the Namibian football community.


The club concluded its statement by extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and teammates, stating, “May his soul rest in eternal peace. Rest easy, Star, your light will forever shine in our hearts.”


The wider football community, including fans, and former teammates, has also extended an outpouring of support and sympathy to the Mungendje.
