Orlando Pirates have once again stamped their authority on the MTN8 competition. In a dramatic final at Mbombela Stadium, they defeated Stellenbosch 3-0 after extra time to defend their crown and walked away with the R10 million winner’s prize.
After a tense 90 minutes that ended goalless, the Buccaneers broke through in extra time thanks to substitutes stepping up. Tshepang Moremi opened the scoring in the first half of extra time with a composed finish following a cross from Oswin Appollis. Soon after, Moremi provided the pass for Tshegofatso Mabasa’s goal to double the lead. And with fatigue setting in, Moremi grabbed his second, again supplied by Appollis, to complete the 3-0 sweep.
This win makes it four MTN8 titles in a row for Orlando Pirates a sequence no club in recent memory has matched.
