Oshana Regional Police have arrested a suspect in connection with violent attacks targeting two court officials in Ondangwa.
In the first incident, Justine Shiweda, the district control and regional court prosecutor, was attacked at her home early in the morning. She was shot in both legs and doused with an acidic substance in front of her children. Shiweda survived the assault and was hospitalized with serious injuries.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old clerk at the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court was targeted when assailants smashed her vehicle’s driver-side window and fired three shots at her right thigh, leaving one bullet lodged in her leg. The attackers then poured an acidic substance on her and inside the car before fleeing the scene.
Police are actively investigating both cases and pursuing additional suspects, including one believed to have fled to South Africa. It remains unclear if the arrested suspect will appear in court today, as ongoing nationwide magistrates’ strikes continue to disrupt court operations.
