More than 300 supporters gathered at Sikanduko in Rundu on Saturday for a Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) rally addressed by the party’s president, McHenry Venaani.

Speaking to the crowd, Venaani urged residents to make informed choices in the upcoming elections, stressing that voters should “use their mind, not their stomachs” when deciding who should lead them.
Venaani described Rundu as the second most populated town in Namibia after Windhoek, yet one of the poorest in the country. He argued that the town’s persistent challenges stem from decisions made at the ballot box over the past three decades.
“They will give you food handouts so that you forget everything you have been told,” Venaani said. “It’s been more than 30 years of independence, yet Rundu is still struggling with water. You have a river right here, but your water is more expensive than in Windhoek, where there is barely any water.”
He encouraged voters not to be swayed by short-term incentives. “This time around, we have to vote with our mind, not our stomachs. If they tell you to vote for them because they will bring ‘Rukuku’, take it—but vote PDM for change,” he added.
Venaani also claimed that millions of dollars are being lost in the Kavango East Region due to mismanagement, saying this highlights the urgent need for accountability and reform.
PDM’s candidates for the Rundu Urban Constituency, Eric Matjayi Ntusi and others from different constituencies and Kavango West candidates, was also present at the event. Watch it here
