A petrol tanker registered in Botswana was completely destroyed by fire on Sunday evening, 20 April 2025, along the B6 national road between Windhoek and Gobabis. Police have confirmed the incident, which happened approximately 15 kilometres from Seeis, heading toward Gobabis.
According to Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the spokesperson of the Namibian Police, the incident occurred at around 20:30. The tanker was carrying about 45,000 litres of fuel when it caught fire, but the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Emergency response teams from the City of Windhoek quickly responded to the scene. Thanks to their swift actions, the flames were brought under control and extinguished before they could spread further. Fortunately, the driver of the tanker, a citizen of Botswana, managed to escape from the vehicle without any injuries.
The burning tanker had partially blocked one of the lanes on the road, causing some disruption to traffic. However, traffic officers were present at the scene and helped direct vehicles safely around the area. Police said the situation was handled professionally, and the traffic flow has since returned to normal.

Authorities are expected to carry out a full investigation to determine what caused the fire. No other vehicles were affected, and no injuries were reported.
