Pope Francis has been discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital after a five-week stay due to severe double pneumonia. The 88-year-old pontiff was seen leaving the hospital on Sunday morning, waving to well-wishers before returning to the Vatican.
During his hospitalization, the Pope underwent intensive treatment for his condition, which doctors described as life-threatening. Upon his release, he briefly addressed the public from a hospital balcony, expressing his gratitude for the prayers and support he received throughout his recovery.
According to medical staff, Pope Francis is still in a fragile state, and doctors have recommended at least two months of rest and rehabilitation to aid his full recovery. Vatican sources confirmed that the Pope will continue his duties with a reduced schedule, focusing primarily on remote engagements and written messages until his health improves.

His return to the Vatican has been met with widespread relief and celebration among the Catholic faithful. Many gathered outside St. Peter’s Square to welcome him back, reflecting the deep affection and concern the global community has for the leader of the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis, known for his resilience and commitment to serving others, is expected to gradually resume his responsibilities. Despite his recent health struggles, he remains determined to continue his mission of promoting peace, dialogue, and social justice worldwide.
