Speaking at the ongoing Unstoppable Africa 2025 high-level opening panel in New York, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah underscored that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is the continent’s most powerful tool to unlock inclusive growth and economic independence. She noted that by breaking down trade barriers and strengthening regional value chains, AfCFTA can transform Africa from a supplier of raw materials into a global hub for refined products and innovation.

The President emphasized that while Africa remains a leading producer of critical minerals essential to the global economy, the continent still occupies a secondary position in world markets. She stressed that this imbalance must end, urging African governments and investors to focus on industrialization, local processing of resources, and job creation within the continent.

“Africa cannot afford to remain on the sidelines while fueling the prosperity of others. By investing in our industries and processing our own minerals, we can claim our fair share of global prosperity,” she said.

She further highlighted that AfCFTA’s success depends on political will and collaboration, not only between governments but also with the private sector and international partners. This, she added, will ensure Africa asserts its economic sovereignty and secures a stronger role in shaping the global market landscape.
