President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on Friday, 20 June 2025, completed a one-day working visit to the Republic of South Africa. This marked her first official trip to South Africa since her inauguration on 21 March 2025 and her second engagement with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
During the visit, the two Heads of State held bilateral discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in key economic areas such as agriculture, tourism, mining, and financial services. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to deepen ties and pursue mutual development goals.
Namibia and South Africa maintain strong economic relations, with South Africa being Namibia’s largest trading partner and a major investor. Likewise, Namibia holds a notable investment presence in the South African economy, reflecting a balanced and strategic partnership.
Both countries are founding members of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), a crucial driver of regional economic integration. Namibia will host the upcoming SACU Summit on 27 June 2025, further emphasizing the country’s regional leadership role.
Established in 2012, the Bi-National Commission (BNC) continues to serve as a platform for structured dialogue and cooperation between the two nations. With over 150 bilateral agreements in place, the BNC facilitates collaboration in areas ranging from trade to foreign policy coordination.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s visit served to reaffirm Namibia’s foreign policy priorities and to give renewed momentum to joint initiatives aligned with the SWAPO Party’s 2024 Election Manifesto and its Implementation Plan.
The President returned to Namibia on the same day following the successful completion of her engagements in South Africa.
