President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has acknowledged the growing frustration among thousands of unemployed qualified teachers, but said government cannot employ everyone.
Speaking at State House on Friday during a meeting with unemployed teachers, Nandi-Ndaitwah explained that recruitment is based on market needs, and there is currently an oversupply in some teaching fields.
“I understand the frustration of being qualified and not employed,” she said. “But we must also accept that government cannot absorb every graduate. Training institutions must align their output with market demand.”
Her remarks come as concerns rise over teacher unemployment possibly exceeding 15,000 by 2025. Teachers’ representative Joyce Liswaniso called for the end of job interviews, mass hiring, and reforms to improve fairness in the recruitment process.
