The Namibian government may delay plans to increase pension grants for the elderly, with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah asking senior citizens to remain patient.
The Old-Age Grant currently stands at N$1,600, after a N$200 raise in 2024. Many pensioners had hoped for another increase in the upcoming 2025/2026 financial year. However, President Nandi-Ndaitwah explained that the government has shifted its focus to other priorities.
She said that a large portion of the national budget has been allocated to youth empowerment projects this year. According to her, helping the youth now will ensure they can support the older generation in the future and also contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The President made these remarks during a meeting at State House with Kirsty Coventry, the president-elect of the International Olympic Committee, who is visiting Namibia.
