Reckless Driving Incident Leads to Drug Discovery

Police Namibia

Karasburg, Namibia – January 3, 2025:
A white Ford Bantam bakkie overturned on the M0021 gravel road, roughly 10 kilometers from Wardan, en route to Karasburg, in what the Namibian Police (NAMPOL) has classified as a case of reckless driving. The accident, which occurred on Friday afternoon, also uncovered an illegal transport of cannabis.

According to a police report, the 22-year-old driver of the vehicle was found in possession of 20 “bankies” of cannabis (commonly referred to as skunk). The drugs were allegedly thrown from the vehicle by the driver after spotting a nearby police checkpoint. One of the passengers later confirmed to police that the cannabis belonged to the driver, who reportedly attempted to discard the evidence before losing control of the vehicle.

The accident left six occupants, including the driver, with injuries ranging from minor to serious. Local medical personnel provided immediate treatment at the scene before the injured were transported to Karasburg State Hospital for further care.

A case of dealing in prohibited drugs has been opened against the driver, who also faces charges of reckless driving and drug-related offenses. Police investigations are ongoing.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspicious activities to ensure safer communities.
