Several residents of Rundu have accused the Rundu Town Council of overcharging for water consumption, alleging that the readings on their bills are significantly higher than the actual usage reflected on their meters.
Despite the council collecting thousands of dollars in service fees, many residents have expressed dissatisfaction with what they describe as poor service delivery. The situation has reportedly worsened as some residents claim they are being billed for water they never used.
“Rundu should not be experiencing water shortages or paying high water fees, considering the town lies right next to the river,” one resident told The Updated World
Evidence seen by The Updated World shows discrepancies between a customer’s water bill and the actual meter reading with the bill reflecting a reading of 177 cubic meters, while the meter itself showed only 119.
When the resident queried the matter, they were reportedly advised by the council to photograph the meter, print the picture, and wait two weeks for feedback.
Community members are now calling on the Rundu Town Council to enhance its billing system, improve transparency, and ensure fairness in its service delivery.
