A Rundu resident who recently challenged an unusually high water bill from the Rundu Town Council has successfully had her account corrected after weeks of follow-up.
On 5 October 2025, The Updated World reported that a Rundu resident had raised concerns about an unusually high water bill. The resident shared a receipt showing discrepancies between the amount indicated on the water meter and the figure reflected on the official bill.
According to reports, the client’s water reading was initially recorded at 177 units, up from 119, resulting in a bill of over N$3,000. After raising the issue with the council, she was advised to wait for two weeks for the matter to be reviewed.
When she returned to the council after the given period, she was informed that the staff member who had promised to assist her had not taken any action and was on leave. She was then asked to return the following day. Upon doing so, her water bill was reduced to N$1,500, confirming that the initial reading had indeed been incorrect.
Residents are advised to always verify their water meter readings before making payments at the Town Council offices to avoid similar overcharges. Bringing your own readings and comparing them with those on the council’s records can help ensure billing accuracy.
