A patient has accused Rundu State Hospital of poor service after claiming to leave the facility feeling worse than when admitted for surgery on Monday, July 7.
The patient said he arrived early for his scheduled operation while battling flu symptoms and diabetes but was left unattended for several hours. Despite repeatedly raising concerns about his condition, he alleged that staff ignored him and failed to provide necessary medication.
He also reported poor infection control, saying basic equipment like thermometers was unavailable, forcing nurses to check temperatures by hand.
The patient said confusion over his surgery added to his concerns. He was initially told he wasn’t on the surgery list but was later rushed to the operating room without proper preparation.
Frustrated with the lack of care and worsening symptoms, he discharged himself, warning that others without support are at even greater risk.
In response, Hospital Superintendent Theresia Shivera urged patients to report complaints to the hospital’s Customer Care Office or the Health Professions Council of Namibia, adding that proper complaint procedures are in place.
