Rundu Town is the Largest town in Namibia

Rundu, Kavango East – October 2023 – The town of Rundu has officially been identified as Namibia’s second-largest urban area, housing 118,632 residents, according to the latest census report. Rundu urban increase with 5.2%. The findings, published on Wednesday.

 Namibia’s recent urban population statistics reveal notable growth since the last census in 2011, with the urban population expanding by 64.4% to 1,512,685 residents, compared to 919,919 in 2011. The nation’s urban growth rate has averaged 4.1% annually, with Windhoek, the capital, leading as the largest urban area with 486,301 residents, growing at 3.3% per year.

Walvis Bay, the second-largest urban center, has grown to 102,592 inhabitants with an annual growth rate of 4.2%, followed by Swakopmund at 75,921 (4.4%) and Oshakati at 58,656 (3.9%).

Nkurenkuru and Divundu experienced the highest growth rates, at 23.6% and 17.1%, respectively. Nkurenkuru, however, remains the smallest regional capital with 10,463 residents—an increase from just 618 in 2011. In terms of urbanization levels, the highest were recorded in Khomas (98.3%), Erongo (90%), and Hardap (74.3%) regions.
