The Rundu Trade Fair has officially opened today, October 24, 2025, with high expectations for a major economic boost in the Kavango East region. According to the Mayor of Rundu, the event is set to surpass the success of its previous iteration, with organizers anticipating nearly 200 exhibitors showcasing their products and services throughout the fair’s duration until November 1.
A key highlight of the event will be the official opening ceremony scheduled for October 28, where Vice President of Namibia, Lucia Witbooi is slated to be the keynote speaker. Due to the planned attendance of the Vice President of Namibia, the place and surrounding areas are expected to be under heightened security protocols.
However, the enthusiasm for the trade fair is being tempered by widespread community frustration over the severe, ongoing water crisis gripping the town. Multiple locations across Rundu continue to face critical water supply shortages. This persistent infrastructure failure comes despite the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, issuing a public demand and a two-day deadline for the local town council to resolve the water service problems.
