
Police in the Zambezi Region are searching for seven inmates who escaped from the Ngoma police holding cells on Sunday night.
According to a police statement, the jailbreak occurred at around 22h00 when the inmates allegedly cut through the iron roof of the holding cells to make their way out.
The escapees include one Angolan national, Xiaver Francisco (27), one Namibian, Chester Yambwa (34), and five Zambian nationals: Mukyokela Sinyinda (20), James Lisho (35), Monga Mubita (23), Nyambe Sililo (53), and Vincent Mwiya (38).
Police have launched an intensive manhunt and are appealing to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the escapees to come forward. Authorities have also warned that the men may be dangerous and should not be approached.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, including how the inmates managed to breach security and obtain the tools to cut through the roof.
